Whats wrong with the door locks on my 2000 Explorer? I have a 2000 Ford Explorer. When I bought the car a few years ago, all of the power locks and unlocks worked. But for the past year or so, the power locks have stopped working (with the key remote, the keyless entry, the driver and passenger switches), but the switch in the trunk has been working fine. All of the unlock switches have been working, its just the lock parts that haven't been working. But the other day, the switch in the trunk stopped forking for both locking and unlocking. All of the other unlock switches work, except for that one. It is just the locks. Audi . How to Lower the Suspension on a 2002 MustangThe 2002 Ford Mustang utilizes coil spring suspension at all four corners, making the best option for lowering the suspension of the Mustang a set of four progressive-rate lowering springs. Use progressive-rate springs to prevent the lowered car from bottoming out on bumps when the suspension is fully compressed. The process of installing the springs is relatively simple provided you have the right tools to do the job. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Automotive jack Jack stands Lug wrench 3/8-inch drive socket set Progressive-rate lowering spring kit Spring compressorInstall the Rear Coil Springs Step by Step : 1 Jack up the car and support the undercarriage with jack stands. Use the lug wrench to remove the wheels and tires from both the front and the back of the car. 2 Position the jack under the rear axle of the car to support it on the side on which you are working. Compress the spring a few inches by raising the jack, and then install the spring compressor onto the spring, which is located toward the front of the car. Tighten down the spring compressor's bolts with the socket wrench. Locate and remove the bolts and tabs that mount the rear spring onto its mounting plates at both the top and the bottom of the spring. 3 Decompress the jack slowly to lower the axle and free the suspension spring from its housing. Remove the spring, then loosen the spring compressor tool slowly to avoid the spring explosively decompressing, and then install the spring compressor onto the Mustang lowering spring. Insert the spring onto the spring mounting plate, then jack up the axle again to snug the spring into place. Reinstall the bolts and spring retaining tabs removed in the previous step, then remove the spring compressor tool and lower the axle. Repeat the same process on the opposite rear wheel of the Mustang. Install the Front Suspension Lowering Springs Step by Step : 1 Position the jack under the front lower control arm of the driver's side of the car. The lower control arm is located just beneath the brake disc, and connects the spindle and hub assembly to the frame together with the upper control arm, which is mounted immediately above and behind the disc brake. You will see the suspension spring mounted just behind and toward the passenger compartment of the wheel well. 2 Raise the jack a few inches to compress the spring, then install the spring compressor tool onto the spring and tighten the tool to hold the spring. Unbolt the spring retainer tabs from the suspension at the top and bottom of the spring, then lower the jack to lower the suspension and free the spring. 3 Pull the spring out from within the wheel well and then use the socket wrench to loosen and then remove the spring compressor tool from the stock spring. Install the spring compressor onto the replacement lowering spring, then position it into the stock spring's position in the wheel well. Raise the jack to snug the spring into place. Replace the mounting tabs and bolts to secure the spring into place, then release the spring's tension by removing the spring compressor tool. Replace the tire onto the car and then repeat the process on the opposite side of the car. 4 Lower the car off the jack stands and push down on each corner of the car's body several times, bouncing the suspension to be certain that the springs are properly seated. Tips & Warnings Check the car's upper and lower ball joints while the wheels are removed from the car to be certain that they are working properly and do not need to be lubricated.
Audi . How to Install a Lift Kit in a 2000 Chevrolet SilveradoThe best lift kit to install on your 2000 Chevrolet Silverado is also one of the least expensive kits to purchase. Utilizing simple coil spring spacers on the front springs, combined with suspension lift blocks in the rear, you can lift your Silverado at home with minimal hand tools. The lift kit also maintains the stock ride quality of your truck because none of the primary components of the suspension are compromised or changed during the installation. Difficulty:Moderately Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Automotive jack Jack stands Lug wrench 1/2 inch drive socket set Rear suspension lifting blocks 1/2 inch drive hex bit socket Spring compressors Front suspension coil spring spacer kitInstall the Rear Suspension Blocks Step by Step : 1 Jack up the truck and support the frame securely with jack stands. Position the jack under the rear axle. 2 Unbolt the shackles which secure the leaf spring to the truck's axle. There are two U shaped shackles on each side of the axle. They are held in place by four nuts located under a mounting plate which is visible when looking at the bottom of the axle housing. Use the socket wrench to remove these bolts, and then slip the shackles up over the top of the leaf spring and discard them. The suspension block kit includes new shackles and bolts. 3 Lower the jack supporting the axle gently until there is enough room between the leaf spring and the axle to slide one of the suspension blocks between them. Insert the mounting pin of the suspension block into the mounting hole of the axle, then align the mounting pin of the leaf spring with the mounting hole on the top of the suspension block. Raise the axle with the jack slightly to snug the block, axle and leaf spring together temporarily. 4 Slide the new suspension shackles included with the suspension block kit over the top of the leaf spring, down past the suspension block and then through the mounting plate located at the bottom of the axle housing. Secure the shackles in place with the supplied nuts, and then repeat the procedure on the opposite side of the truck. Reinstall the rear wheels and tires of the truck. Install the Front Coil Spring Spacers Step by Step : 1 Remove the brake system on the front of the truck by first unbolting the brake caliper from the brake disc with a hex key bit fitted to the socket wrench. The brake caliper is positioned at the top of the brake disc and slightly toward the passenger compartment. With the caliper removed, use your hands to pull the brake disc off of the wheel hub. 2 Position the jack under the lower control arm of the truck. The lower control arm is located just below the wheel hub, connected to the spindle with the lower ball joint nut. Apply upward pressure on the lower control arm with the jack to compress the spring, but do not lift the truck off of the jack stands. 3 Install the spring compressor onto the spring, tightening it until the spring is held firmly in place. Unbolt the shock absorber from the bottom of the control arm. There are two bolts securing the bottom of the shock absorber to the control arm. Locate and remove the spring retainers you will find at the base of the spring, then unbolt the lower ball joint nut from the spindle. This will allow the lower control arm to be lowered. 4 Lower the control arm by releasing the pressure on the jack until you can slip the coil spring spacer between the bottom of the spring and the spring retainer cup on the lower control arm. Install the mounting tabs included with the coil spring spacer kit onto the spring and the spring retainer cup, then raise the jack to raise the lower control arm into place. 5 Bolt the lower ball joint back together, then remove the spring compressor from the spring. Reinstall the brake disc and the brake caliper onto the wheel hub and replace the tire onto the truck. The installation procedure is the same on both the driver and passenger side of the truck. Tips & Warnings Check the brake and suspension components of the truck while the wheels are removed to make certain that they do not need serviced. Use caution when working with the spring of the truck's suspension. A spring under tension can decompress under the right circumstances, causing damage or injury. Some products can damage your skin or your cars surface if left on too long or if applied and removed improperly. Wash one section of the car at a time: Hose it down, soap it up, and rinse it off. When you've finished the entire vehicle, hose it all down again to get off every last bit of soap. Use a medium stream of water that flows off in sheets and makes drying the car easier. Make sure that no water collects in the tiny rust-prone spaces around the trim and behind the bumpers. Don't scratch at hard-to-remove dirt. Soak it loose by placing a wet rag on it. If your vehicle is befouled with tar or dead bugs, commercial solvents can get rid of them safely. Be sure to remove these intense cleansers thoroughly and wash the surface with soap and water immediately afterward. Towel-dry the car immediately with terry towels, diapers, or a synthetic chamois to get rid of water spotting that can mar the car's surface. Chamois are good for this purpose and can be washed, rinsed, and used for years. But they're more expensive, and I find that old, dry terry towels work pretty well, too. Besides, what else can you do with towels that have not only become too faded for the bathroom but are too torn even for the beach?
